Welcome to Yew Tree Medical Centre

Yew Tree Medical Centre is committed to providing high quality medical care in a friendly environment to the local population in Liverpool.

We have been practising from the same building for years, and the practice is undergoing changes to deliver Modern family practice in a traditional setting.

We believe that patients receive the best possible care when it's provided by a healthcare professional who genuinely knows their patient. This personal approach is vital for primary care. That's why we make it a priority to get to know our patients, understand their circumstances and healthcare requirements.

173 Wasted Appointments last month equals 11 GP Clinics

Did you know that last month we had a total of 173 wasted appointments - this translates into 11 GP clinics being empty. Please be conscious that when you waste a GP or a Nurse appointment, someone else who genuinely needed that appointment has suffered because of this. Think twice before you DNA (Did not attend) an appointment.

We are having an open day flu clinic this Wednesday, on the 28th of November. You can drop in anytime between 9 am to 4pm to have your flu vaccine. The injected flu vaccine is offered free of charge on the NHS to people who are at risk. This is to ensure they are protected against catching flu and developing serious complications.

You are eligible to receive a free flu jab if you:

  • are 65 years of age or over
  • are pregnant
  • have certain medical conditions*
  • are living in a long-stay residential care home or other long-stay care facility
  • receive a carer's allowance, or you are the main carer for an elderly or disabled person whose welfare may be at risk if you fall ill

Front-line health and social care workers are also eligible to receive the flu vaccine. It is your employer's responsibility to arrange and pay for this vaccine. Regretfully, we are unable to offer private flu vaccination. This is available from local pharmacies.

Children flu vaccination programme

The children's nasal spray flu vaccine is for 2 and 3 year-olds, plus children in Reception class and school years 1, 2, 3 and 4, plus children with long-term health problems* *asthma, diabetes, heart, kidney and neurological problems, for example.

Please don't put your child at risk - Book them in for their nasal flu vaccinations.

Delivery of the children’s programme will be as follows:

In the surgery:

  • Two and three year olds; children born between 1st September  2013 and 31st August 2015
  • At risk children up to 18 years if parents/guardians prefer

At school:

  • Children in Reception class and school years 1, 2, 3, and 4 (aged 4 to 8 years on 31st August 2017)

Every week we release a number of appointments for patients to be able to book. These are a variety of Telephone and face to face appointments, with Doctors, Practice Nurse & Advanced Nurse Practitioners. Please register yourselves for our online access system to make use of this.

We realise that our phone system is always busy first thing in the morning, and so we have created this online system to make it easier for you to access us.

You can also request your repeat prescriptions from this.

We really value feedback from our patients, whether it’s through the Patient Representative Group, NHS Choices, The Friends and Family Test, the feedback forms available at reception or online, or elsewhere.

In October 2017 the Practice commenced a GP telephone triage system to reduce DNAs and wasted appointments. The GP telephone triage system in respect of the Practice has worked very well, however….. We really do listen to our patients…

You said…. Via patient survey, telephone, and face to face that... The GP telephone triage consultation isn’t working for some of you as it is inconvenient; you are in work and cannot take calls, you would rather a face to face appointment. Alongside this some patients have reported they love the GP telephone consultation system, as it is very convenient for them and saves them coming into Practice.

We did….We are now providing GP Triage calls every morning alongside this we have increased our face to face appointments with the GP and the Nurse Prescriber every morning and afternoon.  Our reception staff will use their skills ensuring you are directed into the appropriate clinician by asking what the reason for the appointment is. Please note you can decline to advise and say personal, which will be respected.

DNA Policy:

We are experiencing a high number of 'Did not Attend' Patients. On a weekly basis, we will get 30-40 DNA's, which is 2 full sessions of GP time. This is very disappointing for us, as we work hard to release pre-book appointments for patients to have ease of access to the GP's and the Nursing staff. Please have a look at our updated DNA (Did not attend) policy in the Practice Information section.

Please remember -

At Yew Tree Medical Centre, we appreciate all patient views and feedback and welcome any ideas to help further shape the development of our practice. Please help us to help you better, and join our patient participation group. Please ask at the desk for details.
